What is massage and what are the benefits

Wikipedia describes massage as “A manipulation of the body’s soft tissues. Massage techniques are commonly applied with hands, fingers, elbows, knees, forearms, feet, or a device. Techniques include, rubbing, kneading the muscles, sometimes concentrating on specific areas where lactic acid can cause tense muscular pain and knots.

The back and legs are often areas prone to stress and muscular injury.
The purpose of massage is generally for the treatment of body stress or pain.”

  • For comfort various aromatic oils, Talcum powder or other products can be used.
    I use warm organic oils which also moisturise the skin.
  • Massage can benefit by de-stressing the muscles aiding better sleep which is one of the bodies ways of recovering from injury, depression and general wear and tear.
  • For some people massage is seen as a treat. For others, sportsmen and women for example, regular massage is viewed as an essential mandatory aid in helping the body repair, relax and rejuvenate.
